Pre Listerian case: Tracheotomy tube, tourniquet, bullet forceps, urethral probes, gum elastic catheters, coude catheters, brush, probeng (stick with sponge). Gum elastic catheters were gum coated and therefore were flexible/maleable. Coude catheters have a curve and are named after the French word for ‘elbow’. The probeng is a stick with small real sponge attached to help remove obstructions caught in the throat, such as swallowed coins. This interestingly named instrument was used for inserting into the oesophagus, and to apply medication.
Thermosaurus is a heat exchanger with a Tyrannosaurus as a backbone. The item is highly efficient and energy-savvy, thanks to its complex structure that includes a skull, spine, ribs, legs, and tail bones. Made of cast iron, Thermosaurus installs like your regular central-heating radiator.
An early 1930′s Dental Phantom
These phantoms have been used for quite some time, this being a choice specimen. Dental students would work on these for practice. Interestingly the little rivets protruding from the facial area would anchor a rubber face to make it more “human” to work on.
